National Engineering College was established in the year 1984. It is accredited by NBA. It offers 6 UG, 7 PG and several research programmes leading to Ph.D. degrees in all departments. NEC has several centers of excellence and laboratories. The college has signed MoU with research organizations and industries in order to promote closer interaction with other institutions in the areas of technology development, training of students, curriculum updation and development of state-of-art centers. The College has well-equipped laboratories for all branches of engineering and also has close interactions with the leading Industries and IT firms for students training and project works. Due to the excellent academic climate in the campus, UG and PG students of our college enjoy good campus placement prospects.
The college is set amidst sylvan sorroundings against a backdrop of hills and valleys. It has an excellent rural landscap and is far from the madding crowd. It provides an ideal atmosphere for academic pursuits. The college came into being in 1984, duly sanctioned under the self financing scheme under the Government of Tamilnadu. During the past twenty five years, the college has grown and expanded in a phenomenal way. Today it offers six undergraduate courses and seven post graduate courses and the college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai & Anna University, Tirunelveli. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and is an institutional member of the Indian Society for Technical Education
NEC, the most prominent landmark of Kovilpatti, has been the crowning glory of this Matchless City of Matches. Its celebrated 'Son of the Soil' Thiru.K.Ramasamy transformed the entire social and cultural scenario in and around this small town by establishing the excellent educational institution popularly referred as ""NEC"". By wielding the magical wand of social commitment and munificence this foresighted philanthropist transformed a strip of barren land into a magnificent academic complex that has been consistently producing infallible engineers of high competence right from the day of its inception in 1984. This much-acclaimed temple of erudition was established under the self-financing scheme sanctioned by the Government of Tamilnadu G.O. No. 939 dated 20.07.1984 by the National Educational and Charitable Trust, Kovilpatti, Thoothukudi district.
Quality Education, the Watchword of the institution, is offered by a well-knit contingent of dedicated teaching faculty. The Management takes particular care to appoint persons of high academic excellence. Members of the teaching faculty have authored valuable books and have published scholarly research papers in reputed National and International journals.
Character is Destiny. Realizing the inadequacy of academic distinction alone for a life of perfection, this resplendent citadel of knowledge lays special emphasis on character development too. 20 students are left under the parental nature of each of the tutors who are members of the teaching faculty. The student's academic and personal problems are discussed immediately and competent counseling is offered systematically. For better interactions between the institution and the benefited, the college organizes Parents-Teachers Meeting twice in an academic year.
