From the College Website Anjalai Ammal-Mahalingam Engineering College (AAMEC), Kovilvenni was started in the year 1995 under the self financing scheme by the Mazdoor Welfare Trust. The founder Sri M.Namasivayam with a long-term prospective vision found a serene and calm atmosphere at Kovilvenni on the Thanjavur-Nagapattinam National Highway NH67 for establishing the college. His devotion, selfless service and thrust of mission have given this college an all round growth. The college now owns 65 acres of land. The buildings to accommodate the academic activities have been meticulously planned and developed. All the necessary infrastructure facilities have been sufficiently brought up to meet the academic advancement of students and staff. The dedicated services of the founder Sri M.Namasivayam have conspicuously positioned this college in the annals of Technical education of our country. It is a pride that a labour union has come forward to provide Technical education facility to students at an affordable cost with quality and sincerity. The college now operates bus services from various destinations to help the students and staff. Also, the college can be reached by rail on the Thanjavur-Thiruvarur route.
The well equipped laboratories, workshops, ideal classrooms, English language lab, ultra modern Gym with sophisticated equipments and experienced faculty members can be distinctly claimed to be the remarkable feature of this college. AAMEC has gone ahead with the installation of 20 Mbps bandwidth Internet connectivity. This provides us, not only with an instant connection but also enhances the accessing speed. Also it enables active 300 users to access the internet simultaneously. Further, through a campus net, the Internet is made available in all the departments and hostels for direct access.
AAMEC has hosted www.aamec.edu.in a website provides all necessary information about the institution: like courses offered, facilities available etc. The 5 storey NIT block, built in 2002, at a cost of Rs. 5 crores provides the state of the art facilities in computers, amply demonstrating the commitment of the management to excel in every field. The construction of the three storey P.G block in 2008, at a cost of Rs.3 crores is one more feather in the cap of the institution.
The planning is so elaborate and distinctly unique that a sewage treatment plant has been built at a cost of nearly Rs.14 lakhs. The plant treats all the liquids-effluents from the college and the hostels to ensure eco-friendly environment.

The college was affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli form the year 1995-2001, and Anna University, Chennai from 2001-2007. Anna University of Technology, Tiruvhirappalli from 2007-2008. From the academic year 2012-2013, the college affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.
Even in the 6th year of its existence, the Institution has received ISO9002 certification. It has been upgraded to 9001:2008. During 2001-2002, the Institution had the distinction of being the youngest to receive accreditation by NBA(AICTE) for the 5 Major disciplines
