"From the College Website The Sri Muthukumaran Institute Of Technology (SMIT) is sponsored and managed by public charitable trust called Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust was founded as early as March 1984 as Thirumathi, Chennai. The members of the trust are eminent personalities in various walks of life such as education and administration. R.Gomathy as Chairperson, Mr. A. Radhakrishnan as Managing Trustee and Thirumathi Meenakshiammal as the trust with the sole aim and object of providing education to the poor in the rural areas in the spire of schooling, arts, science, engineering, educational institutions, medical, dental, nursing and other paramedical courses. Our aim is to provide rewarding and fulfilling experience, which naturally enhances their knowledge base and develop their talent and skills. To achieve our goals, we established SMIT in 1996 by an order of Govt. of Tamil Nadu, approved by AICTE & Affiliated with Anna University-Chennai, Chennai & South India. In the line of objects the trust has, the following institutions of repute have been established over the years."
